Writing coaches make the process collaborative as they support the individual writer's goals for their personal writer's journey. To learn more about writing coaches, read this on "Should I Hire a Writing Coach" from The Writer Magazine.
As noted in the linked article, not all coaches are created equal. I’m a published author and a college professor with training in the teaching of writing (pedagogy). I believe in transparency, so I've provided links to outside sources for most of what I list in my bio.
I am a writer and military veteran who holds an MFA in creative writing (fiction) from Pacific Lutheran University and an MA in Creative Writing (creative nonfiction) from Regis University (verified on my PPCC bio). I teach undergraduate (PPCC) and graduate creative writing (SNHU Online MFA). Here are a few testimonials from previous mentees, however, since that's on my personal website, you can checkout my ratings at RateMyProfessor.com. It's not all creative writing based but gives you a sense for the type of teacher I am.
I mentor writers in fiction and creative nonfiction (memoir, personal essay, and other forms of life writing), which align with my masters degrees and my teaching experience. I also publish The Write Place newsletter for writers.
I am a hybrid author, meaning I publish with a traditional publisher and also indie publish. You can find my novels on my Amazon author page. My journal publications include publications for flash fiction and creative nonfiction to include december Magazine, So to Speak Feminist Journal, The New Limestone Review, Progenitor Art & Literary Review, Soundings, Wanderlust Journal, Beyond Words Magazine, the Fredericksburg Literary Art Review, and Brilliant Flash Fiction.
My memoir in essays earned a Finalist spot in the 2020 Curt Johnson Prose Awards for Nonfiction & the 2020 Monadnock Essay Collection Prize.
