Writing about (not) writing
If you're struggling to get words on the page, join our free August writing workshops
I can’t even with writing right now
If you're feeling creatively blocked, tired, or demoralized, I have good news for you. You're absolutely normal. The truth is that writing is hard, and those that think it's easy have never really struggled with writer's block or a creative dry spell or just plain fear. EB White, who wrote Charlotte's Web, had debilitating writer's block and struggled with general anxiety his entire life. At times he struggled to write 500 words a day. No one would deny his genius, so if you're struggling to get those words on the page, you're in good company.
If that’s where you find yourself, whether from a block, work schedule, burnout, pandemic burnout, or general life struggles, I'd like to invite you to join me and a small group of writers on Sundays starting this Sunday and going for the next month, as we write our way through writing struggles (not all struggles are blocks).
Expressive Writing is a form of guided meditation but with writing. This article gives you some background and a place to start. It sounds too simple, but that's what makes it so effective. I started teaching expressive writing to veterans with PTSD and have found that it works at healing our creativity as well. You can follow the article guidelines, or, you can join a small group I'm guiding for the next 4 Sundays. It's 1.5 hours a Sunday where we meet, I walk you through prompts, and you do the hard work of writing about it.
Where and When
We meet in Discord on Sundays at 3:00-4:30 Mountain time (5-6:30 Eastern).
The focus is on writing our own journey, but we do have moments to share and talk through issues. I typically run this workshop once a month, but we're meeting every Sunday in August (starting July 31) to try to get our mojo back. The longest prompt each week will deal directly with writing. If you need help getting started with Discord, try this article.
If you want to join us, you can email to let me know or just show up on Sunday, but please try to get familiar with Discord prior to meeting so you’re comfortable. It sucks when technology gets in our way and we need to be somewhere on time.
Let me know if you have questions.
